Kitaria Fables doesn’t even have a leveling system, as you might expect for something that bills itself as an RPG. It has that wonderful mix of pastoral farming and monster-slaying, but it works within itself, and rather than throwing gimmicks and systems at players, it relies on a simple grind and a steady drip-feed of progression and story beats to keep players interested. In contrast to some attempts to build a Rune Factory-like by building on and expanding the formula (such as My Time At Portia), Kitaria Fables is modest… and you could argue that it’s almost too much so. Kitaria Fables is a blissful example of this in action.
Taking the tranquility of Harvest Moon and mashing it together with the inherent violence of RPGs seems counter-intuitive, and yet the developers of Rune Factory and various associated homages and pastiches have somehow refined this eclectic blend to a fine art. It’s a cute, but not perfect package.On its surface, you would never suspect that Rune Factory world work. The combat mechanics are strong, farming is adequate with upgradable tools just like upgradingable weapons and so much more! Kitaria Fables is a popular choice for farmers and RPG lovers. However, these are minor gripes, and if you’re to have a few too many load times, you’ll have plenty to enjoy here. Finally, the game doesn’t interrupt when you open menus, which can be daunting, especially when enemies are nearby! Then there’s the issue of fast traveling, while a number of fast travel sites are all around the world, some are one-way-only options, meaning you spend a ton of time back tracking and walking and time is money.
This resulted in a load time, which appears to be unnecessari in 2021. The game has a TON of areas, none of which are particularly large. While the story telling isn’t as interesting as it is as if you’ll find out why the Empire has such a hold on the area and what they are hiding away its game play mechanics that may end up ripping you down. Your day will come to an end after you die, but all other things remain in tact. It’s a simplistic approach, but it’s nonetheless well-deserved. The area in which they attack will be shown to you second before they attack, allowing you to take control out of the way to get a couple more blows yourself. Put more aggressive opponents away from the pack with a well-positioned bow shot, giving you the chance to take that foe down with relative ease.
Despite the fact that there are a few enemies to you, things get crazy.fast. I would say that the combat is very easy one-on-one. The areas you visit are magnificent, and the creatures themselves are unique and difficult to control. It was enough to take up a lot of my time each day, but it was not too overwhelming that I felt like there was little time to explore the world.Īnd what a fantastic world it is. The farming was mostly done to satisfy side quests from the adorable Kiki, or for acquiring enough coins to purchase the extremely expensive gear available in the game. The majority of my time in the game was questing and defeating monsters to obtain the resources necessary to better equip my cat for future adventures. In terms of farming and RPG mechanics, the game draws heavily on the latter.

Whatever The Seasons or Garden Story, anything that blends farming and role playing mechanics is almost a instant win, according to me. After all, if you’ve read my posts on GamesReviews or my videos on YouTube, you’ll realize that these types of games are my bread and butter. I had taken a close eye on the development when Kitaria Fables was announced.
